The Problem That Inspired DocStrata

Pulling information out of scanned documents was a recurring problem on client projects — image-heavy PDFs that had to be read manually, page by page. The existing tools were expensive, complicated, or simply didn't extract enough usable text.

DocStrata started as the fix for that: a way to stop manually retyping text out of scanned PDFs.

DocStrata converts image-based PDFs into searchable text-based PDFs while keeping the original images intact. That means you can:

The text layer created helps you select and copy-paste text without any frustration.
Search Through PDFs
Use Ctrl+F, and you can find the text you want just like a Word document. You no longer need to go through it manually.

Behind the scenes, DocStrata uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, which is handled by the tool. You just upload the PDF, and it takes care of the rest.
